SCHOOL OF VISUAL ARTS
YEARBOOK

During my junior and senior years at the School of Visual Arts, I joined the yearbook team to help create what all my peers would receive at the end of our time at SVA. The yearbook was the first time I worked on creating a mass-produced product. With the assistance of our instructors, we came up with design concepts, met with printers to discuss materials and production, collaborated with photographers for our portrait shoots, and spent hours together in a room hoping to build a book to remember.

We had a tight-knit group of people working on a 500-page book and our target audience is our peers. Our concept was to show your best self(ie) and dig into the mindset of our generation and the effects of the internet age. We created studio setups with photographers that helped guide everyone to taking their selfies for the yearbook. We also asked our peers “What is something you learned from your time at SVA?” and “If you could have a hashtag for your time at SVA what would it be?” To go along with the book, we created an Instagram page as a digital archive of each portrait for people to view once the books were distributed at graduation.
